WHO ARE WE?

AUA aims to create a strong foundation of social and academic support for undergraduates studying or interested in the field of anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. Our purpose is to enhance the undergraduate academic experience and foster a close community through activities, events, shared resources, and discussions that focus on the social and intellectual needs of our members within the field of anthropology.

We are on CalLink, UC Berkeley's hub for student organizations. All enrolled students can find us here.

Ryann Hirt

Co-President

Ryann is a senior triple majoring in anthropology, dance, and theater, with an emphasis in lighting design. As well as being a part of the AUA, she is the lead work study student assistant in the Anthropology department and is co-stage manager to the Ballet Company at Berkeley. In her spare time, she enjoys playing Animal Crossing, the Sims, and catching up with her favorite YouTubers. One day, she jokingly hopes to write a children’s book about her family pets called: “Three Dogs, Two Cats, a Bunny Named Marshmallow… and 9,000 Bees”.

Frida transferred from El Camino College into Cal during the spring 2020 semester. She is currently studying sociocultural anthropology, with a special interest in altered states of consciousness across various cultures. Outside of AUA & her campus studies, she enjoys drawing and painting through “traditional” and digital means, video games, and media entertainment of all forms.

She wears a black-hooded sweater that says “Anime and Chill,” and hides her hands in the front kangaroo pocket. The left half of the photo is digitally drawn as a cartoon, while the other half remains 3D. The background overlooks part of the Santa Monica Pier, located in Southern California.
Gabby Muller
she/her/hers
Treasurer

Gabby is a senior double majoring in anthropology and Scandinavian studies with an emphasis in Old Norse hailing from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Aside from her role in the AUA, she is an anthropology tutor through the student learning center, the Financial director of Ballet Company @ Berkeley, and a Research assistant in the Bare Bones zoo archaeology and community engagement lab. In her spare time, she likes watching Scandinavian film and tv shows, trying to choreograph something weird for bc@b dancers, and trying to finish that blanket she’s been knitting since freshman year. She wants to one day be a Viking Age archaeologist but for right now just binge watches The Last Kingdom.
